In The Name And By The Authority Of The State Of Iowa

PROCLAMATION

Whereas, Lance Corporal Darwin L. Judge, MSG, US Marine Corps was one of the last men lost in the Vietnam War, killed during a mortar attack on Ton Sun Nhut Airbase during the evacuation of Saigon; and

Whereas, Lance Corporal Darwin L. Judge was a son of Marshalltown and a graduate of Marshalltown High School; and

Whereas, Lance Corporal Darwin L. Judge, first an Eagle Scout and later a Marine, was an honorable man who lived his life by the Marine Motto, Semper Fidelis - Always Faithful; and

Whereas, Lance Corporal Darwin L. Judge served our country and gave his life for our country; and

Whereas, The 25th Anniversary of the death of Lance Corporal Darwin L. Judge can serve as a reminder to all of us of the 853 other Iowans who fought and died for this country in the Vietnam War:

Now, therefore, I, Thomas J. Vilsack, Governor Of The State Of Iowa, do hereby proclaim April 29, 2000, as

LANCE CORPORAL DARWIN L. JUDGE DAY

In Iowa, and remind all citizens to never forget that freedom has a price.
