LCpl Robert E. Mondo USMC
(Deceased)
LCpl Mondo with family
LCpl Robert E. Mondo passed
away
(Rest in Peace Marine)
( LCpl Robert Mondo served at the
Defense Attach頏ffice compound at the time of the evacuation.)
Marines - I received a call from Bob Mondo's
wife and step-son a couple of minutes ago that Bob passed away this
afternoon after falling at home. Bob was an MSG in the Saigon detachment
that served out at the Defense Attach頏ffice compound at the time of the
evacuation.
That's about all I know at this point and I'll
let you know additional information as I learn it. I'm heading down to visit
with his wife and her family tomorrow morning and should know more then.
Will advise just as soon as I know more details
about services and with an address for cards, etc. Bob's wife's name is
Zella Cottrell Mondo and cards to her may be sent to: Mrs. Zella Mondo, P.
O. Box 602, Winton, CA 95388 (209) 756-3677 - cell / (209) 356-0188 - home.
I'll take responsibility for making sure there
are flowers at the services in the association's name.

Marines - I rec'd a call this morning from Zella
Mondo, Bob's wife. A viewing is scheduled from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM on
Thursday, December 8th at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel - located at 1290
Winton Way (at Drakeley Avenue) in Atwater, California 95301 (209) 358-7700
Burial is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. that afternoon
(Thursday, December 8th) at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery which
is near Santa Nella along I-5 in the central valley - I understand that they
are very prompt and will not be running late. The address for the cemetery
is 32053 McCabe Rd. in Gustine, CA 95322 and the phone number is (209)
854-1040. See
http://www.cem.va.gov/nchp/sanjoaquinvalley.htm Basically, from Santa
Nella, proceed north on Highway 33 and then turn left on McCabe Road and
follow it to the cemetery. This is about 2 hours south of Sacramento.
Honors and taps will be provided by the American
Legion from Los Banos and I have made arrangements for the association to
provide flowers for the services.
I will not be able to attend the services due to
prior plans to be in Florida with my wife's family that week so if anyone
from the California contingent could attend, it would be greatly
appreciated.
I think they'll be having a memorial service /
celebration of Bob's life in Winton at a future date and I'll pass that info
on as I receive it.
